Great Falls Residence

A basement to die for...

The lot of this Great Falls home steeply sloped from front to back. So steep, by the time grade reached the back of the house the entire basement rear wall was several feet above the yard. With no constraint from grade, new tall windows and french doors were generously grouped along the rear wall.

Access to this great new lower level space was originally gained through a dark and dreary enclosed basement stair off the entry foyer. The home owner also remarked how much she loved her Giraff sculpture, but, felt the need to relocate it to a less conspicuous location.

The solution became obvious, Open up the ground floor and continue the main stairway down to the basement. Now, both upper and lower living spaces are seamlessly connected through the light filled stairwell from which the giraff .
