Green - The Way Forward
Since the firm's inception, DW Ricks Architects has strived to integrate Sustainable (Green) Design into every project. We believe the fundamentals of Sustainable Design are core principals and responsibilities of the Architect's craft: the careful integration of buildings within their natural context; the creation of a satisfying and healthy interior environment; a rigorously efficient approach to the use of resources and its effect on the building system's design; site and construction practices that optimize natural resources and minimize waste; and the consideration of the future evolution and re-use of the built environment.
What is a Green House?
A green home is a healthy, comfortable, cost efficient home that reduces energy and water usage and protects the environment by utilizing passive energy design principles combined with energy efficient systems and construction techniques. A Green home can reduce electric, natural gas and water consumption by 30% or greater. Selective material choices and construction techniques can further increase energy savings by maximizing natural resources and minimizing waste.
Many Sustainable Design choices have great benefit with little or no additional cost to the homeowner. Many others have benefits at increasingly greater costs. DW Ricks Architects will assist the homeowner to understand the endless array of potential energy saving choices, and their cost implications. Our in-house check-list of Green Design Choices includes rated Green techniques and components proven to result in a more efficient and healthy home. Through discussions with the Architect, the homeowner will take an active role to make Green Design choices appropriate to their sensibilities and project budget.
