Kinghorn Residence
The original upper living level, of this 1970's split foyer contemporary, was cramped and dark with only limited views to the outside. The client wished to enlarge their living space, remodel the master bath and open the rear wall to the southeast light and views. The rear yard is sunny and overlooks a pristine natural stream parsed by dense tall stalks of bamboo. Zoning & Natural Resource restrictions allowed for only minor expansion toward the rear. Consequently, the little used existing center screen porch was recaptured for most of the living area expansion. A glass curtain wall replaced the existing rear wall and ceiling/attic space was removed to the underside of the existing sloped rafters. A small rear cantilevered wood deck (impossible to photograph due to the bamboo) provides a tree house like perch overlooking the glade.
