The original 1980’s “Spec” center-hall Colonial offered little in recognition of its dramatic surroundings. Fronting on The Washington Golf Course, the client complained of dark uninspired rooms lacking views. They longed for abundant light and vistas onto the park like setting.
The addition re-imagines the Colonial using classic elements and details combined with large glazed areas. Window units are grouped to create entire walls of glass. To promote panoramic views, the structure is pulled back to reveal glass corners. Privacy need not be sacrificed. The “glassy” master suite is easily made private with electric remote controlled roller shades concealed behind the crown wall trim. The new great room deck is relocated along side of the addition to promote better views from the family room and eat-in kitchen. The entire house was made accessible. A residential elevator was seamlessly inserted into the center hall and connects all four levels.
