Turning adversity into advantage...
The previous home owners added a rear 1-story ground floor family & kitchen addition. The current owner's goal was to retain the original addition and build a new master suite above it. The original house is a handsome 2-story center-hall Colonial. However, the rear addition was the proverbial "shortest distance between two points". Our addition was intended to not only provide necessary space for the master suite, but, to also help transform the entire rear composition.
Two smaller cross gabled forms allow the new addition to seamlessly engage the original house. By splitting the gables in two, proportions are reduced and the addition can remain below the existing roof ridge. Each gable cantilevers out beyond the lower addition. Paired columns with lattice complete the garden facade. The owner preferred the exterior remain all white, both siding & trim. So, white-on-white texture was created with different siding exposures (heights) divided by horizontal bands of flat trim & windows.
